Weeds

As I mowed my lawn yesterday I couldn’t help but think how beautiful the dandelions were. Hundreds of brilliantly bright yellow flowers set against the backdrop of perfectly green grass.

On the like topic, of dandelions, I was recently enlightened. I managed to go for 22 years thinking that there were two types of dandelions. Type A are yellow, and are the pretty dandelions. They are good for popping the heads off, and making yellow marks on people's arms. Type B are the white ones, the fun ones. They are good for picking and making wishes.

I have only recently come into the knowledge that they are indeed, the same flower, and that they are yellow and then white. I went around asking many people if they knew this remarkable fact, and quickly realized that I may have been the only one to not know this. It was my brother, though, a 6th grader, who gave me the best explanation for this new-realized glory of nature. Lars said, "Cate, duh, they're like people. When they get old, they get white hair." I guess I like the old people dandelions best.
